Schon das Bouquet dieses Weins ist im bessten Sinne berauschend: intensive Kirsche, eingekochte Zwetschgen, florale Nuancen, dazu aber auch ein wenig gelbe Frucht, superreife Aprikosen, feinstes Holz und immer wieder Kirsche. Der Eindruck wird von Minute zu Minute intensiver und dichter. Auch am Gaumen voluminös und doch charmant, mit großer Tiefe, mürbem Tannin und einer fantastischen Länge.

Die Domaine de Chevalier hat Quantensprünge hingelegt, was die Qualität angeht und findet sich mittlerweile an der Spitze von Pessac-Léognan wieder. 2016 ist auch hier ein strahlender Jahrgang geworden, der mit Opulenz und Harmonie glänzt.

Tobacco, dark fruit and earth on the nose. The palate shows exceptional balance, with incisive acidity and precise dark fruit that are deeply appealing for their harmony. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. This is appealing now, but it will evolve wonderfully. Drink now or hold. 10 Years On retrospective.

This luscious wine from old-vine Sauvignon Blanc is filled out even further by the 30% Sémillon in the blend. It is rich in feel and intense in a white fruit flavor, with touches of spice from the wood aging. It is fresh and textured on the finish. Drink from 2024.

The 2016 Domaine de Chevalier is a thrilling wine. Dense and beautifully layered, the 2016 is also quite a bit richer than it usually is. Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics and structure pulse through the wine. The red-toned fruit is incredibly primary at this stage. Readers should be prepared to cellar the 2016 for at least a handful of years. It has been nothing short of magnificent on the three occasions I have tasted it so far.

Vinifikation
Der Wein wird von Cabernet Sauvignon dominiert, der auf den kieshaltigen Böden mit hohem Lehm- und Sandanteil bestens gedeiht. Kleinere Anteile von Merlot und Cabernet Franc ergänzen die Cuvée. Der Ausbau erfolgt klassischerweise in französischer Eiche, mit einem Neuholzanteil von circa 30%.
