The 2020 Pontet-Canet is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, aging in 50% new French oak barriques, 35% concrete amphorae and 15% in one-year-old barrels. Harvest began on the 14th September for the Merlot, and the final lot of Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on 30th September.

Opaque purple-black in color, it needs significant aeration and swirling to coax out evocative notes of black cherry preserves, raspberry pie, blackcurrant pastilles and damp soil, before launching into gorgeous floral and spice notions of red roses, cinnamon stick, star anise and cardamom, with a waft of crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a lot of depth and polish, delivering mouth-coating red and black fruits with loads of fragrant earth and floral sparks, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral tinged. This is a singular, fascinating expression of the vintage and highly recommended!

Aromas of blackcurrants and black cherries with hints of crushed walnuts, grilled thyme, cocoa powder and graphite. It’s full-bodied with layers of ultra-fine, silky tannins that elegantly coat your palate, allowing the juicy and vibrant fruit to shine. Delicate and pristine, yet compact with lots of energy and power to uncover in the coming years. It lasts for minutes and is delicious now. The purity of fruit is really impressive. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. 50% new oak 15% old oak and 35% concrete amphorae. Try after 2027.

The flagship from this estate, the 2020 Château Pontet-Canet is a beauty based on 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 50% new oak, with 35% in amphora. Deep purple-hued with a great nose of dark currants, plums, tobacco leaf, and truffly earth, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel and a great finish. The higher Merlot content here really shows in its overall sexy, supple, seamless style, and while this already offers pleasure, it's going to be one for the ages as well.

Aromas of wild blackberries, mocha, dried herbs, graphite and violets. The palate is full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of tobacco leaves, blood plums, blackcurrants and spices. Very elegant, with a high level of refinement and purity. A Rhone-lover’s dream, grown on one of the highest syrah vineyards in South Australia. Excellent.

Flighty and finicky, this dances lightly on its toes – beautifully floral with shades of misty morning hedge among its red fruits, lighter in alcohol and palate weight, yet still with a depth of flavour complexity that is beguiling. You can’t help being drawn back to this wine again and again, such is its compelling definition of modern, pretty and elegant Australian Shiraz.

The violets and blackberries show wonderfully on the nose here, yet this remains subtle and complete with hints of walnuts. Full body, ultra-fine and firm tannins and a beautiful fruit and mineral undertone. Tight and substantial. So layered. Another example of finesse and beauty here with this pure merlot. Better in 2018.

The 2023 Galatrona,100% Merlot, is soft, plush and sensual. Dark blue/purplish fruit, cloves, new leather, menthol and licorice all meld together in the glass. Soft, caressing contours shape this mid-weight, understated vintage of the estate's flagship wine. The 2023 is not a huge Galatrona but is instead a wine that impresses with its finesse. This is a step up from the 2022.

The 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Combes Des Fous is medium ruby-hued and comes from a mix of 60% very old vine Grenache, 20% Syrah raised all in new barrels, and the rest Vaccarèse and Cinsault raised in concrete. It brings an intense array of ripe framboise, wild strawberries, peppery garrigue, and white flowers that's to die for. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, incredibly sexy Châteauneuf offering silky tannins, a pure, elegant, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's like the Vieilles Vignes cuvée with the intensity turned up a solid notch. This one goes to 11.

The full-bodied 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Combe des Fous is as sexy as Châteauneuf gets. Seductive rosewater, wild strawberry, red cherry, licorice and are all dialed up. White pepper adds another spicy dimension. Smooth and polished, the multifaceted 2023 ends with excellent freshness on the long and seductive finish. I can’t wait to taste it from bottle.

Moving to the reds, the 2021 Pinot Noir was raised in 45% new barrels and reveals a translucent ruby hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of spiced red and black raspberry fruits, leafy herbs, forest floor, and baking spices. Medium-bodied on the palate, it's not the most massive or richest in the vintage, yet its balance is spot on, it has beautifully integrated tannins, and lively acidity. It's a stunning Pinot Noir with so much character. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Bien Nacido Vineyard offers up scents of rose petal, mint, cedar, blood orange, pipe tobacco and dried herbs. Aromatic and yet poised, with tons of understated depth, the 2021 is super-impressive. Bright acids propel the finish effortlessly. What a gorgeous wine this is.

La Fiorita is part of a large group of boutique, artisanal producers who operate in Montalcino and contribute to the town's lively wine scene. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is light and silky in texture with cherry, earth and dried violets. The bouquet is delicate and so is the palate, save for that powerful 15% alcohol. This wine is a blend of fruit from the Collosorbo (Poggio al Sole), Pian Bossolino and Giardinello vineyards.

Solid fruit for the vintage with berry, cherry, stone and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh, juicy finish.
