Alexander Jansen - Einkaufsleitung Wine in Black
Ein heller, transparenter Pinot Noir, der von Anfang an eine große Komplexität ausstrahlt. Er duftet nach zerstoßenem, nassem Stein und Graphit, Lorbeer und Lakritze, Pfeffer, etwas Eisen, aber auch nach dunklen Beeren, Himbeeren und Granatapfel. Am Gaumen zeigt der Wein eine brillante Säure, gepaart mit markanten, aber geschmeidigen Tanninen, roten Früchten und Erde. Der Pinot Noir bietet eine hervorragende Struktur, ist saftig, körnig, lang und beeindruckend.

Paul Pujol hat 15 Jahre gewartet, bis die Reben tief genug verwurzelt waren – und genau diese Geduld schmeckt man sofort. Aus kühlem Central Otago, biologisch zertifiziert und bewusst mit minimaler Extraktion vinifiziert, wirkt dieser Pinot Noir unglaublich präzise, saftig und mineralisch. Ein Wein mit Grip, Struktur und echtem „Wow“-Moment.

The 2023 Olearia Pinot Noir hails from a steep, rocky point in the vineyard (the vineyard is called Rocky Point, aptly named), overlooking the Clutha River below and the Pisa range on the other side of the valley. It seems to me an achievement for the vines to prosper in this cool, elevated and bony site, and their low-yielding manner is ament to the fight they engage in for survival and prosperity. I love it here; it feels every inch the mountainous region that it is. It is atmospheric and impactful, as is the wine. So, this is denser and more compact than the Sophora tasted alongside it; the tannins are infused into every aspect of the fruit here. There are three Dijon clones in this vineyard site, 115, 667, 777, and Abel as well. "I find the clones become less of a deal as the vines get older. It tends to be more important where they are than what's on the end of the post," says Winemaker Paul Pujol. This has such velvet plushness, but the tannins feel so dry and pliable within the folds of fruit. The acidity is fresh and seems to lead directly into the tannins, which linger through the finish. I do love these wines. 13% alcohol, sealed under Diam.

Very subtle aromas of flowers, peaches and lavender follow through to a medium body with fine tannins that are integrated and fresh. Fruit is vivid and delicious. Drink it now and enjoy, but it will improve with age.

Prophet's Rock
Prophet's Rock ist ein preisgekröntes Weingut in der Central Otago Region in Neuseeland, das vor allem für seine exzellenten Pinot Noirs bekannt ist. Für die Weine zeichnet Paul Pujol verantwortlich, der sein Handwerk unter anderem in den USA und im Burgund lernte. Von dort bringt er auch seine Liebe zu feinen, eleganten Weinen mit, der er jetzt auf Prophet’s Rock Ausdruck verleiht.
Vinifikation
Die biologisch zertifizierten Pinot Noir Trauben stammen aus dem so genannten Olearia Vineyard in Bendigo. Er ist geprägt von den Flussterrassen des Cromwell Basin und den Erhebungen der Pisa Range. Der Boden besteht hauptsächlich aus Schiefer mit etwas Quarz und wenig organischer Substanz. Seinen Namen verdankt er den Olearia-Bäumen, die hier wachsen und deren Früchte zur Herstellung von Wermut verwendet werden. Das Klima in Zentral-Otago ist sehr kühl. Die von Hand gelesenen Trauben wurden spontan und mit so wenig Extraktion wie möglich vergoren und in Barriques mit wenig Toasting ausgebaut.
