The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape (65% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah) offers an up-front, classic, straight-up Provençal bouquet of spiced red and black fruits, saddle leather, bouquet garni, and spring flowers. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, rounded, beautifully textured red with sweet tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It's an undeniable success in the vintage, delivering tons of character as well as considerable elegance.

This domaine's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape—a blend of 65% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, all aged in concrete tanks or tronconic vats—is pretty classically styled. Hints of garrigue accent ripe cherries on the nose in this full-bodied, supple effort. Yes, it's ripe, weighing in at a reported 16.2% alcohol, yet it doesn't come across as hot or heavy-handed, being easy to drink, with a long, concentrated and softly tannic finish.

A touch of tarragon to the pear fruit here, very vibrant on the palate, with bright acidity. Long, vivid style, dynamic and full of energy. Weighty, but not heavy, and a lovely balance of sweet ripe fruit to bright acidity. 20% fermented in new oak.
