Moving to the reds from barrel, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape has lots of black raspberry and almost cassis-like fruits as well as notes of Provençal garrigue, lavender, and violets. I love its tannins, it’s full-bodied, and certainly an impressive base cuvée.

A blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% a mix of other permitted red varieties, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers scents of cherries, mocha and earth. It's full-bodied and reasonably concentrated, with an open-knit feel and gently tannic finish. It probably should be consumed within the next decade.
