Vom Kap der guten Weine: Südafrika im Set entdecken!

Jolandie Fouché sieht sich selbst als nur schwer zu zähmende Winzerin, die einen starken inneren Kompass besitzt. Das hat sie mittlerweile sehr weit gebracht, denn neben Ausbildung und Erfahrung ist es vor allem ihr untrügliches Bauchgefühl, das verantwortlich ist für den Erfolg ihrer Weine.

Jolandie Fouché uses grapes from four parcels - one in Malmesbury and three on the
Paardeberg - to produce this stunning Chenin Blanc. Poised, refreshing, focused and self-
confident, it has lovely granitic intensity, aromas of oatmeal and hay and a palate of salted
lemons and beeswax. Impressive stuff.

At once tropical and mineral, exuding aromas of yellow-fleshed nectarines, mangoes, crushed stones and lime peel. It’s full-bodied and fleshy but vibrant with a limey acidity. From four vineyards, vines planted between 1968 and 1980.

The 2023 Chenin Blanc comes from Swartland—70% from Paardeberg and 30% from west of Malmesbury on ferrous soils. This has a wonderful nose that leans more toward the pithy side. Waxy and resinous, it really translates the variety with aplomb. The palate is well balanced with a superb texture. There’s just a mote of viscosity, building toward a slightly creamy, lightly spiced, chamomile-tinged finish. Highly recommended.

The Rall 2022 Swartland Red is Syrah (from the same vineyard in the Swartland used in the mono-varietal expression) with Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault. This wine delivers more texture and intensity, and it shows a big-boned personality that wraps thickly over the palate. A silky, elegant red blend that has aromas of chocolate strawberries, wild cherries, light spices and orange leaves. It’s medium-bodied, supple and fine-grained. Cool finish. 78% syrah, 12% grenache, 7% carignan and 3% cinsault, all 100% whole-bunch fermented.

Donovan Rall's la red blend is Syrah based, with a supporting crew of 12% Grenache, 7%
Carignan and 3% Cinsault. Always released a year later than the rest of the portfolio to allow
the tannins to harmonise, it combines components from schist and granite soils, showing
plenty of grip, aromas of Campari spices and garrigue and a core of plum, tobacco leaf and
red cherry.

Johan Kruger hat sich darauf spezialisiert, besonders feine und elegante südafrikanische Weine zu erzeugen, die von Höhenlagen stammen und von altem Rebmaterial profitieren. Dieser Chardonnay zeigt auf beeindruckende Weise, wieviel Potential diese Rebsorte in Südafrika besitzt.

Johan Kruger buys these grapes from Oubaas van Zyl's 1.3-hectare 1990 vineyard at 700
metres in Piekenierskloof. Truly remarkable at the price, it's an intense, nuanced, beautifully
balanced white with wax, butter, vanilla spice and citrus peel flavours, salty minerality and
effortless complexity.

A fresh and clean chardonnay that has sliced pear and grapefruit on the nose, plus a touch of butter cream. It’s medium- to full-bodied with creamy, fleshy stone fruit.

The 2023 Chardonnay Klipkop Old Vines comes from vines planted in 1992 and was aged in 20% new French oak. White peach, dried honey and egg whites open on the nose. This is nicely focused and perhaps the most understated of the three Chardonnays in this lineup. The palate is taut and slightly more tensile than the Swartland. It’s notably linear and saline, with a persistent finish. Very fine.

Dass Reg Holder Wein machen kann, das hat er in seiner Zeit bei Delheim sehr eindrücklich bewiesen. Mit seinem Soloprojekt setzt er den Terroir-Gedanken konsequent fort und liefert charatkervolle Weine wie diesen Chenin. Sehr limitiert und sehr gut!
